There is a common thread between the pieces I make: the self-affirmation of identity and reflection on the topics that concern and fascinate me... I try to make sense of the world through my paintings.
–Daniela Kovačić
Daniela is a figurative painter born and raised in Chilean Patagonia, currently living and working in Chicago, United States. With an M.F.A. from the New York Academy of Art and a B.F.A. from Finis Terrae University in Chile, Daniela has developed a body of work that explores her personal identity, often through the representation of women and children. Her artistic approach does not seek definitive answers but rather raises questions and contradictions, allowing her pieces to reflect her own experiences.
Daniela's work invites introspection, capturing moments that seem still but are filled with subtle energy. Each series becomes an exploration of the everyday, where humanity is expressed in a tacit and silent way. Throughout her career, she has been recognized with prestigious scholarships from NYAA, Fulbright, and Becas Chile. In 2019, she was one of the ten finalists for the Bennett Prize, leading to her paintings being exhibited over two years in museums and institutions across the United States. She has also received awards such as the Robert Gamblin Painting Prize and the Eben Demarest Prize in 2021.
Her work has been exhibited and published internationally, establishing her as an artistic voice that invites the viewer to pause and reflect. Her ability to capture the intimate and silent aspects of the human experience has made her pieces highly valued by collectors, who find in her work a deep, personal connection, making each acquisition an emotional and artistic investment.
