My work is based on admiration for the beauty of human beings in all their facets. I like to tell stories full of philosophical, historical or spiritual symbolism, through chiaroscuro… I consider myself a contemporary baroque artist.
–Christian Escobar
Christian Escobar, also known as "Chrispapita," is a prominent Guatemalan easel painter and muralist who has taken his art to international platforms.
His career is highlighted by his participation in the 2022 Venice Biennale, where he presented the monumental work "Inclusion," placing Guatemala on the map of contemporary art.
His work explores themes such as inclusion, respect for diversity, and the human relationship with death, always from the perspective of living life to the fullest.
Inspired by masters such as Caravaggio and Chuck Close, with whom he maintained a close friendship, Christian combines chiaroscuro techniques with narratives rich in historical, philosophical, and spiritual symbolism.
In 2024, Christian joined the HECTOR DIAZ Gallery, consolidating his presence on the international art scene and continuing his quest for transcendence through monumental and easel works.
